Cartoonist and Music Education Friend Tom Batiuk Heads to Washington for Music Education Week

On Thursday, June 18, cartoonist Tom Batiuk will be among the honored guests attending the MENC Rally for Music Education at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters in Washington, DC. The rally is a key part of MENC's Music Education Week in Washington, June 17-23.

A recent Pulitzer finalist for cartooning, Batiuk created and draws the "Funky Winkerbean" comic strip. He is a longtime supporter of music education. He creates the "Halle Dinkle" comic strip, which explores the life and times of a general music teacher, just for MENC members. Here is his latest:

Batiuk was also named a 2008 Lowell Mason Fellow in large part for his support of music education issues.
