This software promotes music and gives students the opportunity to play an instrument that is otherwise unavailable.  True it does not teach fingerings and technique, however, it gives the students the opportunity to hear the instrument and decide if it should be included as the melody or as harmony.  It also incorporates rhythm through a "Drum Mode".

DescriptionThere’s Magic is the Music is an inspirational song by the contemporary composers John Jacobson and Mac Huff. Its motivational lyrics and dynamic melody describe the positive impact of music on our hope for the future and desire to achieve.  In preparation for participation in the MENC World’s Largest Concert, lower elementary students will sing the arrangement in unison with simple ostinato accompaniment using Orff instruments. Upper Elementary Students will perform the piece as written, depending on their level of proficiency.  They can play the melodic line on the recorder and can also use/create more complex Orff Accompaniments which outline the chord progressions of the song  They will  discuss ancient connections between magic and music particularly as outlined in the scientific theories of the Renaissance.  All students will discuss in a developmentally appropriate manner the moods and attitudes created by different types of music. They will also explore how music is used in medicine (I.e. music therapy), to promote healing and a feelings of well being.  They will further extend the lesson to discuss how music is used in various forms of media to enhance dramatic effects.  The song will be performed by all grade levels with the suggested choreography: The composer, choreographer, humanitarian and motivational speaker John Jacobson and equally gifted composer and arranger Mac Huff have once again teamed together to create this lively, motivational show tune.  Their musical contributions to the world of music education are legend their collaborations often encourage students to self-actualize and achieve through participation in music.  For more information on the life and works of John Jacobson please visit:  www.johnjacobson.com For more information on the life and works of Mac Huff please visit:  www.machuff.com The original publication of this score may be found in the March/April 2007 issue of Music Express.

This lesson is to help an elementary classroom of children to quickly learn to sing a song about happy music and keeping a positive, upbeat attitude in our lives.  It is presented as if the class will meet once to learn the song and then only have time to review it at subsequent class meetings.  My classes meet once every 6 school days--contact time is precious and not frequent enough!  Kindergarten students and 5th graders will move through the lesson slower/faster than other grade levels, but all grades K-5 can learn the song fairly quickly using this lesson.
