VH1 Driven: Jamie Foxx, Lesson 1

Students will explore various musical careers.Students will identify similarities between Jamie Foxx’s early musical career as church choir director and the careers of J.S. Bach and F. J. Grouping Wii instruments Into Real Instrument Families

Students will review the 4 un-pitched instrument families (wood, metals, drums, scraper/shakers) and learn the names and attributes of the orchestral instrument families. Using the Wii Music game, students will identifyspecific Wii instruments and name the the appropriate orchestral instrument families to which the Wii instrument belongs.

Everyone makes mistakes. In this lesson, students will use problem/solution graphic organizers and write a newspaper article highlighting the mishaps of Little Amadeus. They will also learn how to use a system to read simple pitch notation in the treble clef in major keys.

They will also learn about meter signatures as they explore the connection between movement and rhythm.

In this lesson, students view the episode of Wunderkind Little Amadeus entitled "The Bird Seller," which contains a rich array of characters and plot twists. Students will then stage a dramatic retelling and improvise a song as they tell the story from the point of view of different characters.

Wunderkind Little Amadeus - Episode Three: "Pumperl in Trouble"

In this lesson, students explore the historical context of Austria in the 18th century through Little Amadeus' adventures. They create Venn diagrams comparing their own lives and young Mozart's life in a variety of categories, and examine the role of music in children's daily life. After they view the episode "Pumperl in Trouble," they create a classroom mural.

Wunderkind Little Amadeus - Episode Two: "The Stolen Watch"

Composers create music from the sounds within them and the sounds that surround them. In this lesson, students will explore the natural and cultural influences that define places. They will use maps to identify Austria and Mozart's birthplace, listen to music from Austria, record geographic information and create sound journals.
