The Caitlin Merie Hurrey Scholarship Fund was established as a memorial to the daughter of Earl Hurrey, Assistant Executive Director at MENC: The National Association for Music Education. Caitlin was a student at Huntingtown Elementary School. She loved to play in the band, sing in the chorus, and wanted to be a teacher when she grew up.
The Fund will award four scholarships in 2008 to:
- A high school senior planning to attend an accredited college or university who has a personal connection to Huntingtown Elementary School.
- A son/daughter of an MENC member planning to attend an accredited college or university.
- An MENC collegiate senior for professional development.
- A son/daughter of an active-duty member of one of the U.S. military music ensembles.
