Caitlin Merie Hurrey Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament

On June 17, 2009, the 5th Annual “Caitlin Classic” kicked off Music Education Week in Washington with a day of golf, a barbecue lunch, a silent auction, a putting contest, and other contests of skill on the links. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Caitlin Merie Hurrey Scholarship Fund. 

The Caitlin Merie Hurrey Scholarship Fund was established as a memorial to the daughter of Earl Hurrey, Deputy Executive Director of MENC: The National Association for Music Education. Caitlin was a student at Huntingtown Elementary School. She loved to play in the band, sing in the chorus, and wanted to be a teacher when she grew up.

The Fund awards four scholarships annually to:

• A high school senior planning to attend an accredited college or university who has a personal connection to Huntingtown Elementary School.
• A son/daughter of an MENC member planning to attend an accredited college or university.
• An MENC collegiate senior for professional development.
• A son/daughter of an active-duty or retired member of one of the U.S. military music ensembles.
